Why Won't My Speedometer Work Anymore?

I have a 2008 Roketa Bali 150cc Motor Scooter.
The speedometer stopped working the other day for NO apparent reason. I unscrewed the cable from the black little round thing that turns with the tire, and checked to see if the cable had broken. It doesn't seem to have. I greased it and put it back in.
What else could have worn out or broken? PLEASE advise... Thank you!
