Buying a gas scooter used? Is it a good idea? Or is buying a motor scooter new more likely to work out positively for you? How can you make the decision?

Buying a used motor scooter can definitely save you some money. Like cars, you pay for the "new" mystique in the showroom. But from what I've seen, quite a few people end up selling their new motor scooters pretty soon after they get them. Just check out the ads on CraigsList.com for your area!

For the life of me, I don't get it. I love my scooter and I love it today as much as the day I got it. But apparently some people buy in haste and then change their minds. So, it's conceivable that you could get a pretty good deal by buying your gas scooter used.

A Word of Warning, Though...

Interested in buying a gas scooter used? Buyer beware...

However, I do want to caution you about buying a gas scooter used. Sure... saving money is good, but... when you buy a used motor scooter, you might be buying from someone who doesn't know a lot about them and may not be able to offer you the best advice about whether that scooter is truly a good fit for you.

Also, buyer beware... be sure to have a scooter-knowledgeable mechanic look over any used scooter before you buy, to make sure it's in good working condition.

Ask about the warranty too... it may or may not be transferable.

And, of course, you want to evaluate whether the scooter brand and model is one of quality. Cheap costing scooters are also sometimes cheaply made... and might be on sale because the owner found out they didn't work. So buy any gas scooter used with caution.

In Summary...

You might get a great deal on a used gas scooter... and I hope you do. The main thing is to make sure that you get good value for your dollar... whether you buy a gas scooter used or a motor scooter new.

I appreciate everyone's contributions over the past few years and I apologize for having to do this.

Wondering why your scooter question never got posted?

Chances are, there is a good reason. Did you...

If you "checked yes" on any of the points above, then I've deleted your post. Sorry, but I have standards. Feel free to re-submit, following the instructions I have everywhere on the site.
