Scooter Guru?

Not Really... Just a Scooter Lover, Like You!

If you're looking for a scooter guru, you're in the wrong place. That's not Kathi MacNaughton, BUT... if you just want to know more about Motor Scooters Guide, then keep reading!

Non scooter guru, Kathi MacNaughton, creative force behind motor-scooters-guide.comI AM a total scooter lover!

So you're here at the About Me page... that must mean you want to know more about who's behind this site. OK... I'll tell you then...

As you probably saw on the home page, my name is Kathi, and I'm in my 50s. I don't think of myself as a middle-aged lady, though, and I certainly don't act like one.

I'm an outdoors person and since I live in Boise, Idaho, which is in the heart of the Rockies, that's a good thing. Adding scootering to my "resume" is just one more way to enjoy nature, sunshine and fresh air, in my opinion.

I'm really an Eastern girl, growing up in western New York state and then spending the 30 years after college raising my 2 wonderful daughters in southern New Jersey.

But in September 2005, my significant other and I relocated West... we'd always wanted to live in the mountains. It's been a bit of an odyssey... Boise is the 3rd place we've lived in out here, but we bought a house here, so we're staying put... at least for a few years. After that, who knows?

Anyway, Boise IS a wonderful place to live if you want to own a scooter. We have a very dry climate and a long warm season. And even in most winters, they hardly get any snow. So that means you have to garage your scooter for only a couple months.

If you're willing to ride in the cold, you could probably ride most of the year. The early spring, when it rains a lot, or the early winter when we often have snow and ice, are the only times that you really can't ride safely or comfortably, at least in my opinion. But I also don't like to be cold, so I don't do much riding when the temp's under 50°.

Who Am I If I'm Not a Scooter Guru?

Kathi MacNaughton, Jenn Hunt and Sarah Collins - me and my two daughters

First and foremost, I'm a mother... and a wife... and a daughter/caregiver. I have two beautiful daughters, 29 and 26, who both live in Texas. The younger one got married last year and is making me a grandmother come summer 2011. I'm going to have a grandson! Smile

I am also a happily married woman... for the second time. I met the love of my life in karate class with both of our sets of kids back in 1997 and we were married in the Idaho mountains in June 2009.

On top of that, I am caring for my elderly mother who has end-stage emphysema and who lives with us. Mom was actually part of the reason I bought my scooter back in 2007, so I could ride up to her house each day to care for her. But then, a few weeks later, she had to come to live with us due to illness. So now I ride my scooter to pick up her prescriptions, run other errands, and just for fun!

My Work... and My Passion

When I'm not scootin', though, I'm working on the Web... which I love! Besides having 10 of my own websites on a pretty wide variety of topics and one that I manage for my hubby, I also do freelance writing aimed at consumers on health topics. You'll find me blogging on asthma, allergies and COPD at HealthCentral.com.

Because I crave variety and new challenges, I can often be found building new websites using a one-of-a-kind platform called Site Build It (SBI) from a company called SiteSell.

I love what I do and this SBI site on scooters is one of my most successful, not to mention pure fun, activities. I have really enjoyed making so many new scooter friends via this site! And by the way, the money this site earns me helps me pay for my scooter gas & maintenance, which is nice. If you're interested in how I built this site (and my business), you can read about it here...

In Summary...

So, I hope you enjoy the site and reading about this non-scooter guru, Kathi MacNaughton, the creative force behind Motor-Scooters-Guide.com!

Attention!

ATTENTION! I have had to delete the Scooter Forum for this site, unfortunately. Despite my best efforts, I could not adequately prevent daily attacks by hackers and spammers. Even though most of their posts did not go public, they still cluttered up my website host's server space, jeopardizing my account. I appreciate everyone's contributions over the past few years and I apologize for having to do this.

Wondering why your scooter question never got posted?

Chances are, there is a good reason. Did you...

If you "checked yes" on any of the points above, then I've deleted your post. Sorry, but I have standards. Feel free to re-submit, following the instructions I have everywhere on the site.

Also... all submissions have to be reviewed by me, and I am currently backlogged. Comments go live without approval, but still take 30 to 60 minutes to show up, so don't repost them, please.
