Why is my scooter bogging down?

by Devin
(Bermuda)

I'm assuming there is something in my tank and or carb as it dies and bogs down very quickly. However if I physically shake the bike it runs fine for a time until presumably whatever is blocking the fuel intake settles.

How do I go about looking for the anomaly?

bleed fuel line?
by: Anonymous

Hi,
I drained the tank, took apart the carb for cleaning. put everything back but its not starting still.

i think there is air in the fuel lines, as the throttle had no tension on it anymore. I'm hoping I need to bleed the lines not that I broke something!

Remove it

Take out your fuel petcock and drain your tank, then drain your carburetor from its drain line. That should let everything out of the system.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Chances are, there is a good reason. Did you...
