Why won't my scooter start after I don't use it for 5-6 days

by Sai Praveen
(Bangalore)

I have a TVS Wego scooter and I seem to have a problem with both electric and kick start if I leave my vehicle idle FOR 5-6 when I am out of Bangalore.

I tried using the kick start number of times with the accelerator but it does not start. Any idea why this is happening?

I had the same problem about a month back; and it worked fine when I got the scooter out from my basement and used kick start/accelerator several times. The scooter worked fine after that without any problem.

Now again I was out of Bangalore for 5-6 days and I am getting the same problem again. What is the cause of this problem and how can I fix this from repeating?

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.
