Why won't my Lance 150cc scooter run after a recent valve adjustment?

My Lance 150cc scooter ran great after a valve adjustment, and then after riding it about 150 miles in two days time it started to sputter/stall in tiny little increments while at top speed. Then when I was almost home after a long ride, it felt really hot and started to lose major power and kept stalling at stop lights.
By the time I got it home, it would not even start at all... a couple days later I could start it if given a lot of throttle, but it wouldn't stay on, you would have to rev the engine pretty high to keep it running, and even after warmed up it would still die.... Not sure what to do? Any help... thanks

Yes, I have been noticeably absent from the site the past few months. I recently lost my mother to a long battle with COPD and was subsequently plagued with a bunch of minor health problems. But I'm better now & back full swing.
