Why won't my electric start work on my scooter?

by Chris
(Somewhere)

When I try to use my electric start on my scooter, it makes a kind of buzzing sound like it's doing something, however, it doesn't actually turn over.

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it?

Lance 2008 Ignition problems NEW
by: Anonymous

Hey, So I have a 2008 Lance Venice. A few weeks ago, the electric ignition stopped working. I have been kick starting even since. I have replaced the battery, solenoid, starter, and ignition coil. Still won't work.
SO TODAY, I tried something. I hooked jumper cables to the car battery(with the car off) and attached the remaining negative to the ground cables on my scooter. Then touched the positive cable to the solenoid and the scooter started. Why did that work and what could the problem be?

Dead Battery NEW
by: Heath

Trying to figure out whether or not I need a new battery... My Buddy scooter only kick starts, nothing happens (not even a sound) when I try the electric start. I took the battery to the local auto part store and they trickle charged it for me for about 4 hours and I noticed the lights are brighter but still no electric start.
Not sure if my next purchase is a new battery or new charger.

Thanks,
Heath

Bad Solenoid NEW

From having a bad solenoid prevent power going to the electric push start button and instrument cluster?

Bad solenoid
by: Jim Zeiser

You have to check if the starter solenoid is bad. To do that you have to locate it, then put a screwdriver across the positive and negative terminals. There will be sparks so don't panic.

If the starter spins, you have to replace the solenoid, if not then try jump starting the scooter with a bigger battery; yours might be bad.

If that still doesn't work, you may have a bad starter motor, loose wires or even a bad brake switch. Detective work is in order here.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...
