Why will my Yamaha Zuma scooter not start any more?

I was riding to a friend's one day, on the way there I was low on gas. I stopped to get gas and then she ran pretty well. Halfway back, she stopped running and now it will not start.
I changed the spark plug, but it won't start. I cleaned the carburetor and it still won't start. The gas line is okay on it, but I'm not sure if the electrical choke is working. Could this be the problem? If so, how can I check it?
