Why is my scooter DEAD?

by Roxanne
(Addison,Texas)

I don't know what happened... my Lance 50cc scooter won't start. It was fine, I had the battery checked and it is fine.

It acts like it has no charge. Lights won't work either; it is dead. What is the problem?

Please help... I have had it only three (3) days. What happened? Oh it is a used 2006 Lance Eagle Cool Sport.

Fuse
by: Jim Zeiser

Next to your battery is a fuse. Check and see if A) it's connected B) it's not blown for some reason. Chinese fuses are not the best so it might have popped for no reason.

I stupidly didn't plug in my fuse on my mail order scooter and it worked fine for three or four days. Suddenly it was dead. When I opened up the fuse holder it was flopping around because the fool who put the scooter together (me) hadn't plugged it in.

Dead Scooter
by: George Jennings

I don't think it's dead! I sounds like the stator is bad. If it's draining your battery that fast, I would start there. I have a Baja SC125 scooter.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.
