Why does my new Cali Classic make a scraping sound?

by Christina S.
(Escondido, CA)

I purchased my NEW scooter from a scooter store and it rode like a dream... for one day. Then I hear this hideous scraping sound only when I turned and now it's constant.

Straight, turn, brake, it's there haunting me! I asked the owner and he was telling me that it is normal for the first few hundred miles. I have just under 300 miles and everyday it gets worse and worse.

Please tell me I'm not crazy! I don't hear other scooters around town doing what my poor Cali Classic does.. :( Any advice would be super appreciated! Thank you much friend!

Lance Dealer NEW
by: Anonymous

Don't contact Mike. He is in sales not warranty or repairs. Go to your dealer who hears complaints like "scratching, makes noises, scraping" etc...
Have you actually got down on the floor and looked for what could be making noise? Check to make sure the center stand (when its in the up position) isn't scraping against the case. Many scooters have a rubber circle attached to the center stand that falls off.
See if mudflap is bolted to bike securely. Change gear oil. If you have over 3000 miles and have never changed the gear oil, noise may be coming from broken rear wheel bearings. Front ones break too and create awful screeching (rare) Get down on the floor and look for problems with bike running, turned off, on kick stand, off stand, someone sitting on it etc. Work the problem then fix or replace issue

Take it back
by: Jim Zeiser

If your dealer won't fix it then contact Lance directly. Scraping noises are not normal and could be a sign of engine or bearing trouble. They also go under the name Alliance Powersports. Ask for Mike.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...
