Need Suggestions Also. NEW
by: Anonymous

I'm having the same difficulty in that I can't drive a motorcycle now and need something easy but can carry my wife and I. Even the Silverwing is only rated at carrying 375lbs and I weigh 256 and my wife 230 ish. I have yet to find a scooter we could both ride together up on the skyline parkway. I'm open to any suggestions.

350lb man 86 250 Honda Elite easy 65 mph
by: cdltpx

My bike is an 86 got it for $1k it has under 9K miles and he had a lot of extra parts to go with my purchase yet to register it for me will do so after mod. I drove the bike first day for 75 miles most interstate 65 mph.It did great; the man that sold it to me said he was fearful to take the bike on the Interstate.

I was on busy I-12 lots of big rigs but I stayed far right and had kept my eyes peeled. My problem is I may need to go get my daughter from school from time to time and she and I over load the bike.

I have found on the WWW that a mod can be done with CB350 shocks I want to do one better and get some AIR SHOCKS so I can easily adjust the ride when needed. I am not an aggressive driver and should find a solution to be able to take her that 5 mile ride.

Weight Rating
by: Jim Zeiser

I just checked over at one of my favorite online scooter sites. Their 150s are mostly rated to carry a max of 350 pounds and their 250cc scooter can carry 450 pounds. So the answer is either a 250 scooter or a 150 in a 250 frame. (there is a 150cc Bali based on the 250cc Bali)

Oh stop judging...
by: Joe in Florida

For all he know his son could be a body builder or footballer in the prime of health.

I'm about 360 and have no problems.

The issue isn't the engine. A 50cc will work, it will just be slower. Figure about 25 mph max. The real issue is frame strength. If you get a Ruckus it has a strong frames and wide tires. Plenty of support.

Scooter for 390 lb son
by: Anonymous

All scooter models have "load limits" as part of their descriptive literature. It would seem to me that the most critical and loving thing you can do for your son is to get him into a weight loss program with a competent health care person. Then he could ride just about any scooter.

Just riding on a scooter would be problematic and a danger to your son and others on the road. There is a lot more to riding a scooter than being a passenger in a car. Riding a scooter is an active, responsible sport, whereas riding in a car is passive requiring very little from the rider.

It is critical that scooter and motorcycle riders be alcohol, medication and drug free, and in good physical health. Your son might be subjected to excessive police inquiries and would certainly have to pass a tough licensing exam. I sympathize with your problem and hope that it can be resolved in your son's best interest.

Something Big
by: Jim Zeiser

He needs something like a Suzuki Burgman 400 or a Yamaha 400 Majesty at least. Anything smaller than that will be straining pretty hard under the load and approaching the maximum vehicle weight rating.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...

Chances are, there is a good reason. Did you...
