What scooter would you take to college?

by Mark
(Poconos, PA)

I'm looking to move off my college campus and will need a scooter that I can commute about 6 miles round trip daily and run errands. I am a college kid=broke, but I really want to buy new.

My budget is $2000-$3500 and I need it to be reliable, as I don't have much extra money for break down expenses. I do have a highway by me that makes getting around easier so needs to cruise 60 mph.

I am a first time buyer and open to any advice.

One scooter I'm looking at is the TNG TS 250.

Honda
by: Anonymous

All good recommends so far. I would stay away from
Chinese. I own a Honda Reflex and would recommend a Reflex or Helix used. They will be well inside of your price range. I have 25000 miles on an 2004
Reflex and have taken three 2000 miles trip on it.

Allentown is not that far from you. Also if you look you'll see on the Allentown Craigslist another group of Hondas and other 250s and other size scooters that will suit your needs.

CF Moto

Also you could look up a CF Moto dealer in your area. They have numerous new scooters for less than $3500, even a 250cc. Their Chinese scooters are well built and backed by a dealer network.

At a budget of up to $3500 you should be able to fond a good used Honda Reflex somewhere in PA. I've even seen Majestys and Burgman in that price range. Look for something Japanese or a Kymco or SYM.

How About a Buddy?
by: Kathi

Hi Mark... I own a 125cc Genuine Buddy scooter, which I bought 2 years ago for around $3000, which included a large windshield installation. I love this scooter and I've never had a lick of trouble with it. It's made with Piaggio parts (same ones that go into Vespas) and comes with a solid guarantee.

It is rated to go 55 to 65 MPH, so might meet your wishes. Could feel small on a high speed highway though. Although I've read a review of someone who rode it on I-35 in Austin, which is pretty daunting.

I think you might have trouble finding anything other than a Chinese-made scooter for your budget that is a 250cc level. If you've read much of this site, many scooter owners do great with Chinese scoots, but they do require more TLC, so that might not be what you want.

Good luck with your choosing...

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...
