What kind of gasoline should I be using?

by Anonymous
(Somewhere)

I was told by the sales man to use premium 93 gasoline in my scooter. I have a VIP 45cc scooter. Is that the right gasoline to be using on such a small engine?

Gasoline?
by: Anonymous

I pay for 92 octane when I fill up. Keep in mind that your fuel tank is only a 1.something gallon, so you might be filling it with mostly the 87 octane that stayed in the hose the last time a car was filled up. Someone else behind you is probably getting your nice 92 octane! You might be okay with any octane grades in US fuel tanks.
I never thought about it until one of my friends on Scooter Diva mentioned it.

Controversy

The Chinese use a different scale than we do to measure octane. The simple answer to this question is to try different grades of gas and see what works best for you. I use 87, unleaded regular, in my 150cc scooter and it works just fine.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Chances are, there is a good reason. Did you...
