What do you think of the Madami motor scooter vs. a Honda?

by Irving Bell
(Cleveland, Ohio)

More specifically, in what country or countries was the Madami motor scooter manufactured? Over what period of time? Are "critical" parts available in the U.S.? If so, where, specifically? What is your opinion as to the quality, specifically a 2004 Freedom 250 with 1100 miles on it, 2 previous owners?

I reside in Cleveland, a "cold weather" city, and would use it only in warm, dry weather and for short trips (to local stores, libraries and the like, so would clock only ~ 500 miles/year. It would be stored indoors, in a fairly well-heated garage. Thanks so much for your help!

Here's the Deal
by: Jim Zeiser

The Madami Freedom 250 is a Chinese clone of the Honda Helix. If it's built by CF Moto it's not a bad scooter. Is it a Honda? No, but by now whatever bugs it had in it should be shaken out and it should be an acceptable machine. Unfortunately for the price most people are asking for Chinese 250s you can buy a used Honda Helix, a better machine, that has a few miles on it. I've seen Helixes with over 10,000 miles and 1990s models for the same money. The Helix is the best scooter ever built and lasts over 100,000 miles easily. Now if you can get that Freedom for close to $1000 now that's a different story. Go for it.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...

Chances are, there is a good reason. Did you...
