What do I do about a 2008 Baccio Runner 50cc scooter smoking?

by Stephen

I think I may have exceeded the weight limit on my Baccio Runner 50cc scooter, but I also have low oil. Will more oil fix my smoking scooter?

Any guidance is appreciated...

Baccio runner 2 stroke
by: Anonymous

The runner is a 2 stroke you dont change the oil. If its smoking it maybe a carb adjustment. Its not a complicated fix and not a 4 stroke that has valves and such. youre engine is fine, i work on over 100 or more at our garage for a rental fleet. if you dont know how to properly adjust the carb find someone who does. running it too lean can cause the piston to blow a hole and then its an expensive fix by a garage, cheap for yourself if you know how to do it.

the difference between a two cycle and 4

a 2stroke engine does not have crankcase oil (the kind that you drain out and change). a 2stroke either has the oil mixed in with the gas, or has an injector for the oil built in to the carburetor or right after the carb on the intake. the engine burns this oil as it is running and the oil also keeps the cylinder walls lubed. if you are getting too much oil then your scooter will smoke. if you have a little bit of smoke that is not a big deal. however, if you are leaving a trail that looks like a smoke grenade went off then you are oiling too much and need to adjust the injector on the carb.

What Kind of Engine?
by: Jim Zeiser

OK, I have a dumb question. Isn't a Baccio Runner a Two Stroke? It's supposed to smoke a little if it is. You should have a separate tank to put oil in that mixes with the gas automatically.

Weight is not the problem
by: Loosegrit

If the scooter is smoking. It means you are burning oil ( not good ). The engine needs to be rebuilt.

Not changing the oil often enough ( every 500 miles ) and not keeping it level. Poor oil care is the number one killer of scooter.

At this point, you can change and add oil but do not get to far from home because it is dying. Five mile is the farest I have pushed my scooter, it not fun.

Wish I had better news.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.
