What could be the problem with my new Xirex Storm 250cc scooter?

by Adam Godar
(Hopkinsville, Kentucky, USA)

New Xirex Storm 250cc scooter will not engage fully in order to start the scooter. It will feed power to the battery, and the battery has been trickle-charged and checked.

The spark plug has been replaced. The gasoline that had been in it all winter was drained out by detaching the fuel line (it had a bit of water in it). Fuel line was reattached and new gasoline has been added.

However, even while holding the brake on and using the automatic start (it has no pull-start or kickstart) the scooter will give a "chiirp, chiirp, chiirp" which goes faster if you give it more gas, and goes slower when you let off the gas, but just will not start the scooter.

Any ideas?

Bad Battery?
by: Jim Zeiser

Go to your starter solenoid and stick a screwdriver between the two terminals going to the starter motor. If it still just chirps you're not getting enough voltage to the starter and your battery is bad. If the starter spins and the scooter starts you have a bad connection in the starting circuit or a bad solenoid.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...
