Should I buy a CY50-B TaoTao 50cc 2011 as my first scooter?

I am looking at buying a CY50-B TaoTao Adult 50cc Gas Moped Scooter. After reading many reviews, I am getting mixed signals as to whether this is a good product or not. I'd like someone's advice on the subject and if there are some other reasonably priced brands/models I should look at. Thanks!

I live in Cincinnati have over 22k miles on mine apart from belts bulbs and oil changes it's great. I ride all year 40 miles a day for work alone , I keep it in my garage and covered in the rain when I park outside. I weigh 196lb it's not a Harley it gets me from A to B cheaply and as a Scotsman that's important.

Just did my first oil change (not including dropping the shipping oil) on one of these. It was extremely easy.

It's reliable and performs as long as you keep more than a quarter tank of gas in it (high grade). It zips along pretty well. Under a quarter tank, mine has trouble feeding fuel and will die out at bad times. It has a pretty good top end (40 on a straight away) but you can expect 25 mph if you are going stop sign to stop sign. I spend about $2.75 a week on gas to commute 10 miles (one way) to work every day.

Be careful with the rear view mirrors. The clamps are pot metal, and if you over tighten, you can pop a chunk out of them.

The fuel lines are a bit cheap, I replaced mine almost straight away (a couple of bucks). If my GF hops on the back, it is decidedly slower. The seat isn't really big enough for two people (I'm 170 lbs, she's 125 lbs). It also messes with the steering since I have to scoot so far forward. So... she's getting one of her own.

It is a good first scooter.

Buying a 50cc scooter usually allows you to have just a drivers license. If you do get it from
www.gsmotorworks.com
They're the importer for Tao Tao and have a great reputation.

Hi I just got my Taotao 50cc back in Jan. I love it!! Its so easy to ride. I don't care if people look at me. I'm 51 years old and over weight and this helps me get up and out the door to ride. I have had no problems with it.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...
