Review of Motobuys.com Online Scooter Dealer

by Merewyn
(Little Rock, AR)

I've just ordered a BMS 200cc Pathfinder from this company (Motobuys.com) and I'll let you know how it goes on from there.

But I would like to add that I did a lot of research into all the different online scooter selling companies. 3 days worth... 8 hour days... solid. (I'm a college chic w/o a job right now. I got some extra time on my hands. School doesn't start until the 18th of January. *shrugs*)

Here's what I've found.

If you go to Mr. Google and type in "BBB rating of motobuys.com" you'll find the BBB weblink with the info you searched for at the top of the list.

The BBB gives www.motobuys.com a solid A.

Did the search again for different online scooter companies.

The rest that I researched with Mr. Google's and the BBB's help all had Fs!
At least a dozen scooter dealership websites had Fs!

So, yeah, definitely buyer beware; but also, just like you do a CarFax history search before you buy a car/truck, do some research before you buy a scooter online.

I'm looking forward to the arrival of my BMS Pathfinder. And from all the positive consumer reviews on other scooter forums, I'm looking forward to working out all of the kinks that come with breaking in a new scooter with the aid of motobuys.com.

Again... Do Your Research.

I don't know if this'll help anyone but that's my 2 cents.

Summary of Complaint w/ BBB NEW
by: Paul

Ordered 2XL Snowmobile Helmet with XL Riding Gloves. Get email that Riding Gloves will be shipped separately. Received Helmet...but in wrong size (XL instead of 2XL). Emails and phone calls to get return info. Had to ship helmet back at MY EXPENSE. Had to call/email multiple times to get helmet...finally delivered 3 weeks later. No word on gloves after multiple emails and phone calls. Received gloves in mail today: 1.not riding gloves as shown on website, 2.one-size-fits-all (not XL as ordered) Resolution Sought:1.Reimburse my mailing expense 2.Send me snowmobile riding gloves as ordered 3.Pay for mailing on return of these generic one size fits all non-riding gloves received
Company's Response: The Gloves were a FREE gift and they are leather riding gloves exactly as advertised. The ad is at http://www.motobuys.com/hjc-helmet-001-95.html The ad reads leather riding gloves and that is what they received. Nowhere on the ad does it say Snowmobile gloves. The cost the customer paid for these gloves was FREE. These gloves are a one size fits all real Leather riding gloves. No where on the ad does it read anything other than that. We are sorry if the customer does not like them however since the customer paid nothing for them the customer cost for these gloves is ZERO. The helmet was sent direct from HJC factory and the helmet was exchanged for customer as soon as we received the helmet back that customer wanted exchanged. We are disappointed that our efforts did not meet there expectations.
Consumer's Rebuttal: Photo of "free" riding gloves was of snowmbobile riding gloves. Website asked for size for riding gloves: which was entered as "XL". The "one size fits all" riding gloves were not XL and since the "free" riding gloves were part of a package for a snowmobile helmet, the assumption would be the riding gloves being for a snowmobile as pictured on the site. They are generic cheap leather gloves with minimal lining that could never be used on a snowmobile. As far as "free" gloves...I had found the helmet for a lesser amount on another website, but b/c this ad included the "free" gloves as a package...I paid more for the helmet assuming the extra cost would be made up with the new gloves.Lastly, nobody addressing the issue of MY EXPENSE for mailing for a mistake by Motobuys
Company's Final Response :This customer ordered a HJC helmet which he claims was not the correct size when received. He was promptly given a return auth # and we exchanged the helmet free of charge. The ad for the Helmet says clearly FREE leather riding gloves. Nothing about snowmobile or anything else. The point here is that the gloves are a "FREE GIFT" with purchase. Customer paid zero, nada, nothing for these gloves. So the main basis for this complaint is he does like the FREE GLOVES that he paid ($0) for? Whats next, someone filing a BBB complaint at Cracker Jack because they don"t like that FREE toy in the box

Stay Away From These Guys NEW
by: Sean

I purchased what suppose to have been a SSR 70cc Deluxe Dirt Bike - Pit Bike with Upgraded Front & Rear Hydraulic Disc Breaks, Upgraded Rear Swing Arm "Straight" Steel Type, and other Upgrades. I asked this guy was this the picture of the exact bike I was buying because of the disclaimer they have about Prices, specifications, and images are subject to change without notice, Not responsible for typographical or illustrative errors, and he said yes that is the exact bike, I then called him a second time to be certain about the bike I was buying, and again he said "yes, it's the exact bike" but all I got was just the manual for the bike I was suppose to have gotten and a basic SSR 70cc with drum brakes and Rear Swing Arm: Steel, "A" Type and 3" smaller then the one I ordered. I called him back to tell him that he sent me the wrong bike, and with out pulling any records or invoice sheet, he had the nerve to tell me that it was the bike I ordered and I need to keep that bike because its a good bike. This guy is what you call a real piece of Sh?t, I wont even trust him to return the bike and send me my money back. I read other complaints about people that's still waiting to get their money back from him. watch out for this site Motobuys.com, and they go by ATV-Quads, don't trust them at all

Don't do it
by: Anonymous

These guys suck. I bought a scooter from them 3 months ago which still hasn't worked. Worst mistake of my life - and their customer service is horrible. Save your money - don't go near them.

Any Updates
by: Anonymous

I was wondering if Merewyn had any updates about the purchase from motobuys.com? I have read conflicting reviews on various websites so I am a bit hesitant on buying from them just yet. For a few hundred more I can buy a scooter from a local dealer. Although it isnt exactly what I wanted, it may be worth the peace of mind.

Thanks

Thanks, Merewyn
by: Kathi, Site Owner

Thanks very much, Merewyn, for posting this review and for sharing your research. You had a really solid approach, and hopefully, it'll pay off for you.

When you order online, there are definitely things you need to do when the scooter arrives, to make it actually roadworthy. Search for Jim Zeiser on this site and you'll find lots of advice along those lines (search box is at top of left column).

Good luck and let us know how it goes, OK?

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...

ATTENTION! I have had to delete the Scooter Forum for this site, unfortunately. Despite my best efforts, I could not adequately prevent daily attacks by hackers and spammers. Even though most of their posts did not go public, they still cluttered up my website host's server space, jeopardizing my account. I appreciate everyone's contributions over the past few years and I apologize for having to do this.

Wondering why your scooter question never got posted?

Chances are, there is a good reason. Did you...

If you "checked yes" on any of the points above, then I've deleted your post. Sorry, but I have standards. Feel free to re-submit, following the instructions I have everywhere on the site.
