Is the brand BMS a good scooter?

by Shane
(Santa Fe, NM)

I am thinking of getting one of these scooters, particularly 150CC Heritage, but I am not sure of the quality.

Does anyone have any experience with the BMS Heritage 150cc scooter, good or bad?

Own a 2022 BMS Prestige 150cc NEW
by: DBailey

I am not new to the trials and tribulations of Chinese scooters. So far, I have owned a TaoTao 50cc, an X-Pro 150cc and now my prestige.

The benefits of the BMS brand were apparent to me right out of the crate. BMS used better quality materials (stainless steel, fiberglass, lock washers, better quality plugs on the electric side, better lights and display) and they were sold by Tractor Supply. Which has 2 locations within 45 minutes of my home.

The drawbacks come from the additional performance. Much more frequent oil changes and gear oil replacement. Added power and higher speeds mean more vibration and lost bolts/fasteners if you don't check them constantly. I lost a muffler strap and a flameout switch before I realized this.

Price point was very reasonable, between 1500 and 2000 dollars.

Of the 3 brands, BMS is the only one I would recommend to a friend.

I have a 2009 heritage 150, it has 4900 miles on it and it's still running good and starting on a first start, still have to change oil very often and the gear oil too, but I recommend it for anybody.

3000 miles NEW
by: DowPete

While I enjoy my Heritage, I have had some problems. Battery life is short only 18-24 months. Front suspension is clunky and bottoms out easily. After having stalling issues after 2,500 miles, my local shop removed the emissions canister, updated CDI and coil- problem solved.
2 up the 150 motor is just enough. Suspension not so much...Parts tend to loosen up, keep an eye on fasteners.

Metal floorboard, helmet hooks, tail trunk and remote nice features.

2012 BMS scooter quality
by: dug sitowski

I know these posts are a year or older but, wut the hey. I've had my BMS 150 scoot for 7 years and it still runs like a top with zero problems.Of course I keep it well maintained which I do myself and Lucas additives make mucho difference. It now tops out at 55 MPH and is rock stable. Chinese technology and quality control has come a long way in recent years and I have no gripes whatever about the bike although I could nit-pick about a few minor, inconsequential things, but I'd recommend this scoot to anyone. Few things in life are perfect including lemons from Detroit and Milwaukee iron so, if you're willing and able to do the required maintenance and adjustments, this is as fine, if not better scooter than most others with a lot of bang for your buck. So, there's my 2 cents for what it's worth.

tighten up NEW
by: Scoot Moto

I own a 2014 Heritage 150. The quality is average for a Chinese manufacturer. The fasteners seem to need attention and tightening. Relatively easy to maintain, decent start-ability.
Downsides, chrome starting to rust, turn signal hard to cancel, suspension system soft and under sprung for 2 up riding.
Upsides, remote starting, easy to refuel, love the tail trunk and metal foot plate.

What I Know
by: Jim Zeiser

BMS sells scooters built for them by Znen, the largest scooter manufacturer in China. By reputation they use solid materials and the importer is supposed to be careful about who they let sell their scooters. Most everyone I know who has a BMS has had good luck with them.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.
