I want to buy a scooter. What kind should I get?

I really wanted to buy a Honda Ruckus but after reading your reviews, I'm not sure if that's what I should get. I want to have it for college and to drive places. What would be the best scooter to buy?

Answer: I'm sure others will chime in, but I don't think we have nearly enough information here about you to make any real specific recommendations. A lot depends on how fast you'll need to drive (what type of roads), your size, your budget, etc. My advice is to read through many of the reviews here on the site, as well as other pages about the different types of scooters, to get more of a feel for what might be right for you. And then visit some dealers and touch & feel different scooters. Take some test drives. Good luck! Scooters are definitely fun, affordable (compared to cars) and fuel-efficient.

I'm going to be biased with my scooter as well and here is why. Cruising speed of 40-50mph, tops out around 55mph and great gas mileage near 100mpg.
Storage space is exceptional with enough room under the seat for a full face helmet and books, supplies, a few small bags, laptop etc as well as a front glovebox for smaller items. This bike also has security features such as locking handlebars and a ignition key locking cover that works only with YOUR key.
Whatever you decide make sure there is nearby dealer support for service, parts or questions.

A dealer I personally know wrote this on Scootdawg.com forum

"You should look into CF MOTO, 150cc Jewel, you can get now for about 1500.00, at least in my shop!! CF has brought prices down tremendously for the consumers. They are the only scooter company I see looking out for the consumer also! I have sold 3 scooters this week"

A Jewel is a high quality, 16" wheeled scooter capable of highway speed, if you're brave enough, and backed by a dealer network. If I was in the market for a scooter I would be at her doorstep in a heartbeat.

I have a Kymco Agility 125cc. Very nice. Not freeway legal. My top speed has been 60mph. Drawbacks are very few. If I could change anything, I would want the speedometer to be primarily MPH. Instead, it is KmPH with MPH smaller.

Wow going for high $

I'm one scooter driver who uses a 49cc vehicle. My max speed is 47mph downhill and is designed for one person.
In my state this schooter requires no insurance or registration. Anything larger requires that I obtain a Motorcycle license at a cost of over $400 just to take the course and the 2 months of required time.
While I require a drivers license this small vehicle serves me well for driving on city and country roads. If you read the mods section of this site, you will see my creature comforts. My Tomas 50 bought in 2008 cost $1400 new from a dealer, who will service my scooter when needed. This scooter is made by SYM of China for a European Moped company, and I will reccomend it as a well built and running machine. Right now I could use an add on heater.

I'm going to go out on a limb here. For less than a Honda Metropolitan or Honda Ruckus a Kymco Agility 125 is a good all around scooter for close to $2000. It will take you anywhere and is extremely reliable. It's been reviewed in the Kymco section.
