CF Moto 150cc e-charm Scooter Review

Here is my review of my CF Moto 150cc e-charm scooter... First, I've never had a scooter or motorcycle before. So, I was a little nervous about driving one.

After searching online and speaking with folks, I settled on a CF MOTO e-charm. I chose it because it was cheap ($1400 bucks here in Minnesota), it was liquid cooled and fuel injected.

I had owned carbureted engines before and new efi is the best. So now I've owned/driven it for a month.

The scooter handles great, accelerates quickly and stops on a dime. It also is easy on the gas (use 92 octane). Looks good too!

My only complaint is there are a lot of squeaks that come from the trunk on the back. Other than that, I am 100% satisfied.

1. Where can I buy parts n cool accessories for this bike? No parts in USA so far!

2. This bike has 10k miles already, is there anything mechanically I should do besides oil change?

3. Where were this bikes made?

2008 Pegasus 150 (CFmoto E-Charm)

Our 2008 Peg 150's are about two months old now with 150 miles on them. We have a great mechanic here in Florida who is familiar with the bikes and is comfortable working on them.

They have a TWO year warranty and parts take about three days to arrive from Dallas, TX (or Grapevine if you prefer). The fuel gauges needed a quick fix and other than that there have been no problems.

The bikes are quick and nimble. Yes, they rattle even when new and run warm, but perform quite well. Trade-in value is so low, about $375, you might as well ride them until they fall apart, somewhere between 20K to 30K miles.

As our first scooters, we are satisfied with the value/price ratio. I wouldn't pay more than $1000-$1200 for new ones though.

Some where in between.

My opinion is somewhere in between Jim Z and Anonymous. I purchased a Q-Link Pegasus scooter, which is the exact same scooter as the CF Moto e-Charm. It is made by CF Moto.

For the money, it was a great little scooter! I bought it for $1,900 from a dealer that was going out of business during the beginning of the Great Recession. Many of the scooter shops have gone out of business here in the North West since that time.

It was a present for my nephew, who was staying with me while he went to college and he is still using it almost two years later.

Was this scooter as well built as my Suzuki Burgman 400? No... but was it worth it? Yes.

I also own a couple of Roketa 200cc dual purpose motorcycles that I bought online and have never been able to get parts for, so the complaint about service is valid.

Go to a reputable dealer is the best advice I can give. Is this scooter in the same class as the Honda SHI150? No but the Honda costs $2,600 more too!

Strong Feelings...

Well, Jim & Anonymous... Wish you'd tell us how you REALLY feel! ;) Seriously, though, Anonymous, if you've spent any time here on the site, you've seen that I have MANY readers who are very contented Chinese scooter owners.

As Jim always says, the cheap Chinese scoots might need a bit more servicing, but if you are diligent about that (either by learning how to fix and maintain the scooter yourself or by finding a knowledgeable mechanic you can count on), then there shouldn't be any reason why you can't have a Chinese scooter you love for many years.

If, like me, you don't want to have to worry about those things, then by all means, spend more money on one of the name brand scooters, like Genuine, Honda, SYM and so forth. But don't put down Chinese scooters because you opt not to do the work... After all, they ARE very cheap to buy.

My two cents...

Vespa Owners

I wish you people would stay at Modern Vespa where you belong. Your ignorance is starting to anger me. First off, CF Motos have a dealer network backing them up and can only be bought at an authorized dealer.

Second, unlike cheap Vespa 150s, they have water cooling and fuel injection. Third, parts are certainly available and cheaper since they aren't made one at a time by over priced European Union labor.

Fourth, you can locate a dealer to repair them at their website, not under "Vespa Mechanics and Espresso Machine Repairman" in the Yellow Pages.

Want to argue some more? Come on back and I'll give you another earful about tinny chassis and two valves per cylinder.

Chinese Junk

Chinese scooters have NO trade in value and you can't get service. Nobody wants to touch them. Every shop I take it to sends me to someone else. They are so cheaply made they literally fall apart. I'm going to Honda tomorrow and pay more money. Believe me, it's worth it!

Bargain

The original MSRP of that scoot was around $2700. You've landed a bargain. The performance and specifications of the E-Charm make it equal with scooters costing twice as much. Why buy a Honda SH 150i when you can have the same scooter for one third the cost?
