Are there rear carrier racks to mount on a car for long transport of scooters?

What is the weight range of scooters? Are there rear carrier racks to mount on a car for long transport? Years ago I owned a Honda 90 scooter and was able to do this.

Answer: Weight ranges on scooters vary hugely, depending on the engine and frame size. So, it's impossible to answer your question with any real accuracy.

But yes, there are racks that can be installed on a trailer hitch of a car/truck/SUV that can carry a scooter... but maybe just the smaller varieties.

Anyone else here know if a large scooter (say, 250cc or more) can be transported on a rack?

It depends on the Hitch weight capacity and the weight of your scooter. for example
You tow a trailer that weights 5000 lbs. but the weight supported on the hitch is usually about 10% of that. So if you had a bike that weights 500 lbs. The hitch would have to be able to support that weight and the weight of your carrier. Most hitch carriers carry between 400-600 lbs, they are meant to carry sport bikes. You can carry up to the weight capacity of the hitch. I can carry my 250cc Honda reflex with ease, it weighs about 300lbs. The one thing you also need to never forget is that the weight of the bike on the rear of the car will affect handling. It can cause the front wheels to feel light and steering to be a little different than what you are used to especially at higher speeds. Be sure to familiarize your self with the altered handling before making any long trips.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.
