Anyone know why my scooter runs and shut off?

Good Morning... I have a Chinese made 2008 Velocity 50CC Motor Scooter. It's been sitting for nearly two months indoors. The scooter was starting right up prior to sitting it up.

I tried to start it and it ran about 3 to 4 seconds and would shut off. When I twist the gas throttle, the engine dies every time. I tried this procedure numerous times.

I have checked the fuel filter, vacuum lines for seepage or twists and everything seems to be OK. The scooter only has 200 miles on it.

Answer: I'm not mechanically inclined but I'm guessing maybe your battery drained while your scooter wasn't being used. It happened to me. You might try re-charging your battery to see if that helps. But if I'm wrong, my scooter friends here who know more about this kind of thing will be sure to chime in. :)

Your problem is the carb guys. The needle valve is cloogged shut thats wht it only runs a few seconds and shuts off.Take off the carb clean and blow it out completely with an air tool/compressor and put it back on.Should stay running now.

My scooter start but then shut off. NEW
by: MN14

Hey guys... I have a Schwinn 49 cc scooter. I have a problem like that too. My scooter runs but when I turn it on I have to keep adding throttle to make it run.

If I let go it will shut off... also the top speed for it is 35 usually but now it barely goes 25. I don't know... it sounds like it wants to go fast but it seems like something is holding it up. Please... I need help anyone. Please comment back.

mine does this too NEW
by: TEX

I don't know how old this post is. BUT..mine does it also..what I do is give the trottle a few twists, then start the scooter,,keeping the trottle open a little til the engine warms up.. even then when I twist the trottle a little it may stall. but it does start up again ..until it warms up a few minutes . after it does warm up, it runs normally. but..I still have to do it if I let it sit a few days..I believe it's all part of letting the engine warm up..because when it warms up I have no further issues with the stalling.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...

Attention!

I'm Back!

Yes, I have been noticeably absent from the site the past few months. I recently lost my mother to a long battle with COPD and was subsequently plagued with a bunch of minor health problems. But I'm better now & back full swing.

I had to delete over a hundred questions that had been submitted, some because they were too old for answers to still be valuable and many because they were written in text speak, which I don't accept on the site. PLEASE... use proper capitalization & punctuation, so I can publish your question/review, etc. without editing. Thanks! :)

Wondering why your scooter question never got posted?

Chances are, there is a good reason. Did you...

If you "checked yes" on any of the points above, then I've deleted your post. Sorry, but I have standards. Feel free to re-submit, following the instructions I have everywhere on the site.

Also... all submissions have to be reviewed by me, and that can take a few days sometimes. Comments go live without approval, but still take 30 to 60 minutes to show up, so don't repost them, please.
