2010 Honda Elite Scooter Review

by Chuck
(Florida)

I love this scoot! Now that I have that out of the way... the scoot is comfortable, economical, quick, and has great under seat storage. Did I mention I love this scoot? I put over 700 miles on her the first month with no issues at all. The fit and finish is typical Honda, excellent and the seat is fine for 50 mile city rides.

My mileage has been right around 100 MPG. The tank holds one and one half gallons, including reserve. If there is a complaint, it would be the size of the gas tank. I have been riding more lately so a 50 mile or more day is becoming common bringing me to a gas station every other day.

I use my scoot for everyday life, going to work (I am a Realtor), shopping, and whatever else needs doing. I looked at a Bergman thinking I needed the power and the sexy looks, but after the sales person changed the purchase price on me (did you guess higher?) I walked out and went to the Honda dealer.

As I was checking out the Silverwing, grimacing at the price, I glanced over and saw my wife checking out the Elite. After finding out how comfortable it was for me and being blown away by the storage, I asked myself what I really wanted in a scooter. The Elite fit the bill perfectly so I own one now.

One last thing is the top speed on mine is about 53 MPH for you speed freaks out there. Try one and you'll buy one!

Take care,
Chuck

Elite colors NEW
by: Judy

Hi - I've been looking at the Elite 110, and I found there are some maroon ones out there. Is there a reason for that, verses the red?
The ones I have found are too far away for me to try out. (I'm in South Central Colorado.) I have ridden a Helix (nice), and a Yamaha Majesty (too tall & heavy for me). I found a 2007 Reflex also, but 4 hours away. Really liking the Elite, and trying to decide if the Reflex is worth the drive.

5000 miles
by: Mistral

I have driven the Honda Elite 5000 miles and just had a 5000 mile check and oil change.
Have kept up the maintenance on it since I bought it new.
I am extremely pleased with it. Have kept it in the garage where I can hook up the battery charger during the winter and keep it out of the elements. If you live in a northern state then you need to keep the battery charged at all times during the winter.
The 5000 mile check did not reveal any problems-it looks brand new as well.
My decision to go with the Elite was price; the model above it was just too expensive. At 50MPH it can keep up with traffic very well.
I have saved a lot of gas since driving it!

Taller Riders
by: Anonymous

The Elite 110 may be a little small but I'm 6 feet and I do fine on the scoot. With well over three thousand miles on her now I am still happy with the purchase. The best thing I can say is stop by your Honda dealer and sit on one or better yet take it for a ride if you can.

I purchased a 2003 Reflex as well as the Elite and even though the Reflex has more power, goes faster, and allows me to put my feet way forward, I still take my Elite quite a bit of the time. Try it... you will like it!

How much room do your feet have? I've been looking around online for now (haven't had time to look in person yet), and was wondering if you'd recommend the Honda Elite for a taller rider (6'1")?

From looking around I've found the Elite has the blend of everything I want (reliability, gas mileage, price, 50+ top speed, doesn't need to get on the interstate, and storage space), but it seems that the only negative marks it gets are because it can be a little cramped.

I'd love to hear from someone that rides one every day as opposed to a one time magazine review.

Best under 3K scooter period.
by: Dan

I'm glad you're loving your Elite and we have something in common now. My wife also started riding and took over the Elite so we got me something bigger. I looked at Burgmans, Majestys (too big for me)and a SYM RV250, also a nice bike but parts and service is another story so I was led back to Honda and the SH150i.

This scoot still gets 95mpg and will reach 70mph and has been a real joy to ride, especially on long trips "two up". I wish they would bring back the Reflex, I'm sure you will love yours for years to come.

Elite 110, Reflex
by: Chuck

Three thousand miles later my Elite 110 has become family as my wife rides it now as well. For me the experiment of could I live without a car is well over. I am happy my second car is history and have no plans to ever get another. I did add a second scooter to the fleet. I purchased a 2003 Honda Reflex with ABS brakes recently. I had a spur of the moment closing that required a 100 mile run on the Elite South of where I live. The scoot did well but it required back roads to get there. Hence the 250cc Reflex. With a top speed of about 80 I can follow the main roads without a problem. The gas mileage is running 67 MPG so far. I only have a thousand miles on this one so I am still in the learning stage.

Worth every penny!
by: Chuck

I love my Elite 110 so much that I sold my second car. The savings in insurance costs and fuel basically make the scooter free transportation.

But that's not why I ride, the reason being it is simply a blast. I haven't driven my other car for a week!

Initially while shopping for a scooter, I wondered if the Honda Elite was worth the large price difference over a bargain Chinese brand. Previously having owned two different Chinese scooters, I decided that I wanted to try something better.

My first scooter was a Longbo and it was disappointing, even for the cheap price I paid. I'm a decent mechanic but I soon grew tired of constantly working on my scooter and did not trust it enough to ride too far from home.

My second scooter was a Strada Eurojet RX150i. It was a much better scooter and was very reliable and I had no issues with it.

The Elite 110 costs about twice as much as the RX150i, but I don't regret the purchase. Quick acceleration, stellar handling, ultra smooth, very quiet with enormous storage, what more could you ask for? Fuel injection, water cooled and 100 mpg to boot!

Finding the right scooter can definitely make a huge difference in overall scooter enjoyment...

Gas Mileage
by: Chuck

My mileage on the Elite is between 93 and 100 mpg. I ride the scoot wide open a lot of the time on the main roads with speed limits up to 55 mph. It has been everything Honda said it was.
Take care,
Chuck

Another proud Elite owner
by: Dan

Hi Chuck,
I've had my Elite for a few months and unfortunately haven't had as much riding as you, being in FL. Can you tell me what the "real" mpg is that you've gotten? We've been battling so much snow and sub freezing temps that I'm yet to use a full tank.
Mine is the red but I like the black as well.

Have fun,
Dan

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Read our review or go right to Amazon.com to buy this highly recommended Battery Tender Jr NOW...
