A Yamaha Vino Scooter

A Yamaha Vino Scooter

I purchased a 2004 Yamaha Vino scooter with 600 miles in July of 2005. Main issues have been two muffler replacements since the muffler came loose at the manifold.

Most recent bad experience is that the engine went out at 14,000 miles. Dealer said repair could run over $1300.

Loved the ride, but was expecting more reliability.

I am shopping for a new machine and am considering Honda, Vespa, or a Buddy.

And they have E-Charms in stock. A great scooter at or less than the prices of the ones you're looking at.

Or a CF Moto. I know a Chinese scooter sounds like a bad idea, but a good E-Charm or Glory is fuel injected, water cooled and has bigger wheels than the scooters you've mentioned. The stability that comes from that contributes to a much better ride.

Battery Tender Junior in package

A battery tender like the Battery Tender Jr. can make all the difference in whether your scooter will start right up each spring, after being stored for months.

Just about every scooter owner needs to have a battery tender, sometimes called a trickle charger. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a climate where you can ride all year long, chances are your scooter will be put on ice, figuratively-speaking, for at least a couple months every winter.

One of the key steps in winterizing a scooter is to protect your battery from draining during its "rest" period. This can – and will – happen if you leave your battery sitting untended in your cold scooter over the winter, even if it's in a garage or shed.

Chances are, there is a good reason. Did you...
